Atiku To Make APC Decision

Atiku To Make APC Decision By Year End

The All Progressives Congress (APC) will have to wait until year ending to know whether or not former vice president, Abubakar Atiku will join forces with the rapidly growing opposition party.
Following a meeting between the leadership of the party at his Abuja residence, the former vice president said he is a strong supporter of a two party system and a strong opposition for the ruling party and will discuss with his political associates and give the APC an answer shortly.
The former vice president said “I am a strong believer of the two party system for this country” adding that “in the past, we have tried together with many of them to put together an alternative strong party so that we can Nigerians choice”
“Today, there is that second party, that is the All Progressives Congress (APC), therefore they will want me to be part of it” he said,
He welcomed the “creation of the APC because it is healthy of our democracy and it is going to improve competition and also governance” noting that “once you have one very strong party and weak ones, then there is no way the opposition can check the government in power.
He further noted that “I will consult with my political associates all over the country and then make an announcement later”.
The APC has been wooing members of other political parties including former heads of states and their deputies to join the opposition and give them a firmer footing ahead of the 2015 elections.

Michael Abebolajo Found Guilty of Killing British Soldier

Michael Abebolajo Found Guilty of Killing British Soldier

A court in London has found two men guilty of killing a British soldier, Lee Rigby near a military barracks in Southeast London in May.
In a verdict that took about 90 minutes to come at the Old Bailey Court in London, the two were found not guilty of attempted murder of a police officer.
Michael Adebolajo, 29, and Michael Adebowale, 22, had pleaded not guilty to both charges. The two men are expected to be sentenced in January.
As he was led out of court after the verdict, Adebolajo faced the media and kissed his Quran.
Cell phone footage replayed in court at the trial showed Adebolajo, still clutching a meat cleaver in his bloody hands, ranting that the killing was “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” for British soldiers killing Muslims overseas.
In a statement given outside the court, the soldier’s family gave their thanks for the “overwhelming support” they had received and for the help to get justice for Rigby.
Read by Detective Inspector, Pete Sparks, the family statement said that his relatives were proud of how Rigby had served his country.
“This is the toughest time of our lives. No one should have to go through what we’ve been through as a family. We are satisfied that justice has been done, but unfortunately no amount of justice will bring Lee back,” the statement said.
“These people have taken him away from us forever, but his memory lives on in all of us and we will never forget him.”
The family, asking to be left alone to grieve in private, said that they would now focus on the future of Rigby’s young son, Jack.

House Urges Jonathan To Sack Oduah

House Urges Jonathan To Sack Oduah Over N643m Armoured Cars

The House of Representatives has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to review the continued engagement of the Minister Of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah for contravening the Appropriation Act 2013.
According to the report, the minister also contravened the Appropriation Act by exceeding the ministry’s approval limit of N100 million by the purchase of 54 vehicles at N643 million.
This was a major part of the resolutions adopted by the lawmakers after considering the report of the House Committee on Aviation, on the purchase of two armoured cars for N643 million.
The report said that the two BMW armoured cars procured in the process were neither provided for in the Act of 2013, nor was there due process followed in their procurement.
The House has also directed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to terminate all transactions and loan agreements into on the matter.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are to also investigate the discrepancies in the chassis number DW68032 of one of the vehicles inspected by the committee.
Minister Expresses Disappointment Over Report
Meanwhile, the Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah has expressed disappointment at the report of the House.
“We are shocked and disappointed that in spite of the deluge of representations and evidences provided by the Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah and all invited stakeholders on the matter, the House would reach conclusions that have only confirmed that there was a hidden agenda in the entire exercise from the beginning,” a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, Mr Joe Obi said.
Mr Obi also condemned the position of the committee that the vehicles were not included in the budget despite the clear evidence he claimed exists in the Appropriation Act.
“Evidence also shows that the cars in question were included as a line item under the “Safety and Security Vehicles” sub-head in the Appropriation Act. The position of the committee that this was not included the budget is spurious as clear evidence exists in the Appropriation Act as stated above.”
He further stated that the action of the Committee and the House were “pre-meditated with the sole aim of casting aspersions on the person and office of the aviation minister”.
Ms. Oduah reiterated her earlier claim of innocence and said that all decisions she took on the procurement followed due process.
“We stand by our earlier submissions to the committee that Due Process was followed in the procurement of the vehicles by the NCAA. The Minister told the Public Hearing; and her evidence was corroborated by the NCAA that the cars were neither purchased for her nor in her name,” he said.

Samsung Galaxy Core Advance With Physical Buttons

Samsung has announced a new smartphone in the Galaxy family, the 4.7-inch Galaxy Core Advance.

The device will come in two colours – deep blue and pearl white – and it will become available early next year at a yet-undisclosed price.

Who makes the final GALAXY11?

Franz Beckenbauer has chosen his all-star line-up and it features many of the planet's finest football talent but will the best of Earth be good enough?
It started in October with the sightings of mysterious circles at landmarks across the globe and was followed by the arrival at top football grounds of a group of strange robed figures. The curiosity of football fans was raised by #WINNERTAKESEARTH until the extraordinary riddle was solved... with the setting of a unique global challenge.

Franz Beckenbauer revealed last month he was compiling a team of "the world's finest" and the concept of the GALAXY11 was born. Details of its purpose remained ambiguous but Beckenbauer was clear that the mission was linked to mysterious circles beamed onto Sugerloaf mountain in Rio de Janeiro and Times Square in New York. The huge hole gouged into London's Hackney Marshes by a ball bearing was also connected.

Beckenbauer himself was also photographed at Stamford Bridge in London alongside a strange robed figure and similar characters were spotted at Munich's Allianz Arena and Turin's Juventus Stadium.

The former Germany player and coach announced he was taking responsilbility for the selection of the GALAXY11, immediately enrolling Barcelona and Argentina's Lionel Messi as his captain.

Over the next few weeks, a host of other star names were added. There was Bayern Munich's Germany playmaker Mario Gotze, Chelsea's Brazilian ace Oscar and outstanding Chinese midfielder Wu Lei.

AC Milan's Stephan El Shaarawy was also selected by Beckenbauer, along with Nigeria's Victor Moses and Radamel Falcao of Monaco. The former World Cup-winning captain and coach wasn't finished there though, with Korean winger Lee Chung-Yong added to his ranks, so too Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan followed, with big-scoring Russian forward Alexander Kerzakhov also called up. Real Madrid's Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo rounded off Beckenbauer's impressive 13-man squad.

In terms of playing positions, the emphasis is clearly on attack with Beckenbauer preparing a special offensive plan to showcase the array of talents at his disposal. Few believed he would be able to assemble such a star-studded collection and yet he managed it. Football fans the world over have since been discussing the choices at #GALAXY11 with the hottest topic for debate being how Messi will play alongside his great rival Ronaldo.

It is an incredible line-up but it needs to be. As Beckenbauer said himself: "Only football can save the planet." Is he correct? Does he have the right weapons to achieve this objective?

Anticipation is building by the day ahead of the GALAXY11's mission so join the debate: #GALAXY11

Manchestercity In Fresh Injury Worries Over Zabaleta

The Argentina right-back felt severe pain in his hamstring during Tuesday's game against Leicester City and the club are concerned that he could be out until the middle of January

Manchester City fear Pablo Zabaleta could be out for a month with a hamstring injury.

The Argentina international limped out of Tuesday night's Capital One Cup win over Leicester City, and the club are holding out hope the player suffered a spasm, rather than a tear.

The club's medical staff are not optimistic, however, and expect scans to indicate a serious injury which could rule him out for as many as seven matches over the next four weeks.

City are prepared to deploy James Milner at right-back over the festive period, given Micah Richards has also been ruled out with a hamstring injury picked up against Bayern Munich last week.

Milner has found form in midfield in recent weeks, particularly in the 3-2 win at the Allianz Arena, but has played at right-back at former club Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Stevan Jovetic is set to make his return to the City line-up against Fulham at the weekened after missing Tuesday's 3-1 win through illness.

The Montenegro striker picked up a calf injury against Newcastle at the end of October but had resumed full training in recent weeks and was expected to make his comeback against the Foxes.

Arsenal Monitors Diego Costa For January Transfer Deal

Arsenal scouts will travel to Atletico Madrid's two matches this week to run the rule over in-form strikerDiego Costa.

Arsene Wenger and the Gunners' chief scout Steve Rowley have identified the Brazilian-born Spain international as a potential January target as the Premier League leaders step up plans to reinforce their front line.

Scouts have been instructed to assess Costa in Wednesday night's Copa Del Rey clash against Sant Andreu and Saturday's La Liga match against Levante, both of which take place at Vicente Calderon.

Costa has been in sensational form this season, scoring 22 goals in 21 Atletico games, including 17 in 16 in the league. Costa heads the Primera Division scoring charts alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, seven ahead of their nearest rivals.

The Atletico spearhead signed a contract extension in August that extended his agreement until 2018 but it is understood a fresh buy-out clause of €38 million was inserted in the new deal.

Arsenal have made contact with Costa's representatives as they lay the foundations for a serious assault on the January market. They have been alerted to the potential availability of the player, who is believed to be on a relatively low wage at Vicente Calderon.

Olivier Giroud has almost single-handedly led the Gunners' attack this season, with Nicklas Bendtner brought back into the fold in late September to provide the only senior alternative to the Frenchman.

Wenger’s priority remains to capture a top striker after moves for Luis Suarez, Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic and Wayne Rooney all fell through last summer, while the Gunners were also unable to agree a last-ditch loan deal for Chelsea’s Demba Ba.

Wenger is well aware of the difficulties in landing A-list options in the notoriously difficult January window, when the big clubs are reluctant to sell their best players.

But he is prepared to push the boat out to land a big name as the Premier League leaders bid to maintain their title challenge.

The manner in which Costa has taken on the Atletico scoring baton left by Radamel Falcao when the Colombian joined Monaco last summer prompted a tug-of-war for his services between Brazil, the country of his birth, and Spain. Costa played in two friendlies for Brazil earlier this year but, since obtaining dual citizenship, he recently announced his desire to play for Spain and was called up for November friendlies only to pull out through injury.

Chelsea need to change approach, Mourinho Admits After Cup Exit

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho admits that he may need to revisit his side's approach to matches after they were dumped out of the Capital One Cup by Sunderland.

The Blues were largely in control of their quarter-final tie on Tuesday but could not build on Lee Cattermole's own goal despite numerous chances falling to the likes of Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba.

Mourinho's men were then made to pay as Fabio Borini levelled the tie deep into the second half before fellow substitute Ki Sung-Yueng popped up to send the Black Cats into the semi-finals just before penalties.

"Maybe the way to rectify it is not to concede goals, maybe the way is to have a different approach," the 50-year-old told the press after the match.

"When you are a very offensive team and you don't score enough goals to win matches, maybe the right approach is to be more defensive, concede less goals and win matches with the few goals we score.

"But that's not what I want because that is not what we have in mind, in the building-up of this team. We want this team to have evolution but based on the way we are playing at the moment. We want to finish opponents but we need to score goals to finish opponents."

His victorious opponent, Gus Poyet, dedicated Sunderland’s win to the supporters, adding that his side now must use the cup result to turn around their fortunes in the league.

"This is for the fans," the Uruguayan beamed after the full-time whistle.

"We go from here. It’s important that I can see us doing it all the time. Now, we [must] do it every game.

"It doesn't matter who we are playing, whether it is Norwich City or Carlisle in the cup, every game. The more we do it, the more difficult we are going to become to play against, I'm sure."

Liverpool In New Record Contract Talks With Uruguayian Star Suarez

Liverpool have made the first step in their bid to tie Suarez down to a club-record contract.

Managing director Ian Ayre flew to Barcelona to hold talks with Suarez's agent, Pere Guardiola, on Tuesday and, although he did not offer a new deal, the meeting signals the Reds' intent to avoid another protracted summer saga.

It is understood that the club are prepared to pay their star forward more than £130,000 (€154,000) per week to stay at Anfield for the long-term.

Liverpool, under the stewardship of Fenway Sports Group, have traditionally been reluctant to open contract negotiations during the season but are desperate to fend off interest in the Uruguay international, whose current deal expires in 2016.

The 26-year-old has been in blistering form since returning from suspension for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, scoring 17 Premier League goals in 11 games and keeping his side just two points behind Arsenal at the top of the table.

Reports has it that Real Madrid are preparing to lay the groundwork on a £60 million (€70m)  move in January, though the Spanish giants expect a deal to be more likely next summer.

Suarez spent the summer angling for a move away from Anfield in pursuit of Champions League football, which strained relations between the player, his agent and the club.

But he has put that behind with a string of exceptional displays and is now settled on Merseyside once more. Liverpool, for their part, believe that the striker's efforts were driven by Champions League ambition rather than financial reward and hope to offer him both next season.

After being named the Football Supporters' Federation's player of the year for 2013 on Monday, Suarez said: "After so many difficult moments for me I was able to win the supporters back, and that was unbelievable when I came back to play."

ManchesterCity Attacking Prodigy Could Miss Clash Against Barcelona

Sergio Aguero could miss Manchester City's Champions League last-16 clash with Barcelona with a calf injury.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini confirmed following his side's 3-1 win against Leicester City in the Capital One Cup that the striker will be out of action for around eight weeks, having limped out of their 6-3 win over Arsenal on Saturday after just 50 minutes.

Pellegrini revealed on Monday that his star striker would miss "at least one month", pending the verdict of club doctors, and the Chilean now believes that it could be as many as two months.

"I am not a doctor. It is very difficult," he told reporters. "The doctor has said he has at least one month or eight weeks. We will see.

"I don't how many weeks but it will be at least one month. It is very difficult to know at this moment how many weeks it can be."

Having missed Tuesday's game against the Foxes, Aguero could sit out as many as 12 matches should he be out of action for the full eight weeks.

If that is the case, he would surely be unable to make the first leg of the Barcelona clash, which is scheduled for February 18.

He will almost certainly play no part in Premier League clashes against Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea, as well as their FA Cup third-round tie with Blackburn.

Barcelona Star Neymar Granted Holiday Leave To Brazil

Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino has revealed that Neymar has been sent on vacation to Brazil in order to give him some extra rest.

The Brazil international enjoyed a shortened summer break due to his participation at the Confederations Cup and Martino believes the attacker is in need of some extra time off after making 23 appearances to date in his debut European season.

Neymar is suspended for this weekend's La Liga game against Getafe and Martino has therefore opted to send him to his native country three days earlier than initially planned.

"Neymar will go to Brazil this Thursday where he’ll have 10 days of rest," Martino stated at a press conference.

"He’s practically had no rest for months.

"He’s adapted well to the club and he knows the role he has to play. He's very loved by everyone."

The 21-year-old has notched 11 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for Barcelona to date this season.

The former Santos starlet will return to the Catalan club on January 2 prior to their Liga meeting with Elche two days later.

The attacker will fly to his native country on Thursday for 10 days to allow him to rest and prepare for the second half of the season after the winter break

Nigerian Medical Assocation Begins Nationwide Strike Action

he Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has denied that it has called off its planned strike billed to commence on Wednesday, a statement by its president, Osahon Enabulele said on Tuesday.
The statement said “It has been brought to our attention that there is news making the rounds that the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has called off the proposed strike action for Wednesday 18th December, 2013.
“We wish to inform our members and members of the public to disregard any such information and to proceed with the planned action for the withdrawal of service from Wednesday 18th December, 2013 until the EDM empowered National Executive Council (NEC) decides otherwise” the statement added.
After the union’s emergency delegates’ conference in Minna, the Niger State capital, The national president, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, told reporters that the industrial action became inevitable after the talks between the union and the Federal Government broke down.
“After the warning strike, the union will have no choice but to go on an indefinite strike if the Federal Government fails to meet our demand.
“For now, what we have issued as a test to the commitment of government is a warning strike. We hope the Federal Government would rise up to its responsibilities and use this opportunity to address the issues presented to it because if this fails, we may have no choice than to declare a total strike.
“We feel the Federal Government is either taking us for a ride or the strategy being employed by us is not appreciated. Handling our issues with levity is what has led us to declare this warning strike action,” Dr. Enabulele said.
He said that the five days warning strike would give allowance to the medical workers, whom he said were agitating for a total action because they had been pushed to their limit.
“NMA has sought to evolve a new strategy of engagement believing that government would rise up to the challenge to meet up with this new reality but unfortunately, as much as we try to see how we can evolve a new strategy of engagement, we have a governance system that is extremely slow to respond to issues

Ex-AC Milan stars Gattuso & Brocchi in match-fixing enquiry & Scandal

Former AC Milan star Gennaro Gattuso is one of a number of former players under investigation for his role in an Italian match-fixing scandal as the Guardia di Finanza step up their battle against criminal involvement in football.

The Italian law enforcement agency raided Gattuso's house in Gallarate on Tuesday morning, with fellow former Italy international Cristian Brocchi - previously of Milan, Inter, Fiorentina and Lazio - also part of the inquiry, along with Claudio Bellucci and Davide Bombardini.

Gattuso and Brocchi are under investigation for possible ties to a criminal organisation that attempted to fix the outcome of up to 90 games in Serie A, Serie B and Lega Pro between 2009 and last season, as well as engaging in sporting fraud.

"Gattuso and Brocchi were connected to the case by the use of phone taps," head of investigation Roberto Di Martino said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Four people were arrested on Tuesday morning in an investigation relating to a previous inquiry which resulted in high-profile figures such as Giuseppe Signore, Cristiano Doni and Stefano Mauri receiving footballing bans.

"The four people arrested are Salvatore Spadaro, Francesco Bazzani, Cosimo Rinci and Fabio Quadri, whom are suspected of helping connect fixers to players," Di Martino continued.

"There have been approximately 30 games in Serie where there has been contact between the arrested people and players or coaches linked to the clubs that were playing in the ensuing days."

Tuesday's arrests were carried out in Milan, Bologna, Rimini and Messina.

Italy has been rocked by yet another investigation into sporting fraud.

Chelsea steal a march on Manchester United over Guarin

Inter directors Piero Ausilio and Marco Branca were in London last week to discuss a deal after the Colombia international indicated he would prefer a move to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea look set to hand David Moyes and Manchester United another blow in the transfer market with Interstar Fredy Guarin ready to agree a move to Stamford Bridge.

It emerged last week that the Premier League champions had stepped up their pursuit of the versatile Colombian midfielder and had sent representatives to Italy to discuss a potential January transfer.

Guarin, however, would prefer a move to the west London club and sees the chance to play under Jose Mourinho as a decisive factor.

Chelsea would be prepared to pay up to €15 million for the former Porto player, an offer which is being seriously considered by the Serie A club.

Inter directors Piero Ausilio and Marco Branca were in London last week to discuss the deal but the club's president Erick Thohir will have the final say as to whether the transfer will be sanctioned.

Mourinho claimed earlier this month that he would not be looking to add to his squad in January, claiming: "It is my squad. For good and for bad, it is my squad. Of course, it is not the perfect squad but it is my squad and I work with them until the last day."

But with Frank Lampard struggling to contribute as much as he has done in the past and ageing enforcer Michael Essien reduced to a bit-part role this season, the Portuguese may see the opportunity to add Guarin's energy and industry too good to miss.

The 27-year-old's decision to snub United's interest would represent another damaging blow to Moyes' reputation in the transfer market following a shambolic summer which saw moves for Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara and Ander Herrera fail to materialise.

Moyes is understood to be under growing pressure to recruit well this winter having overspent significantly on his one major signing thus far, Marouane Fellaini, who has been far from an instant hit.

Guarin's contract at Inter runs until 2016 and his agent recently declined to comment publicly on United's efforts to sign him, except to state that "David Moyes appreciates him".

Sherwood Handed The Reins At Tottenham Replaces AVB

The technical co-ordinator has been handed the reins alongside Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey, but will get the job on a full-time basis if he improves results on the pitch

Tim Sherwood will be appointed the next permanent Tottenham manager if he impresses as interim boss,
Sherwood has been placed in temporary charge of the first team following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas on Monday morning.
In a statement on Monday evening, Spurs said: "We can announce that Tim Sherwood, Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand will take charge of the first team while the club progresses discussions."

Sources have told Goal that Sherwood, the club's technical co-ordinator who is close to all-powerfulchairman Daniel Levy, is in line to be given the manager's job on a permanent basis if he can improve the results and playing style.
Sherwood has impressed the Spurs hierarchy with his management of the club's development team, which has won plaudits for the fluency of its football. The 44-year-old former midfielder is also a member of the Tottenham transfer committee responsible for signing players.
He has initially been handed the reins for Wednesday's Capital One Cup clash against West Ham, where he will be joined in the dugout by striker coach Les Ferdinand and highly rated development coach Chris Ramsey.
Spurs announced that Villas-Boas' No2 Steffan Freund and goalkeeping coach Tony Parks will remain on the first-team coaching staff but the Portugese's countrymen Daniel Souza, Luis Martins and Jose Mario Rocha have left the club.
Villas-Boas was sacked on Monday morning following a hastily arranged board meeting after seeing his side humiliated in a 5-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
The Spurs board want a smooth transition from one regime to another and believe Sherwood's knowledge of the players and the club's culture makes him a strong candidate to permanently succeed Villas-Boas.
Goal understands that Spurs have also made contact with Guus Hiddink and Fabio Capello, but the former is committed to the Dutch national team for four years from next summer and the former England manager is on an extremely lucrative package to manage Russia at the 2014 World Cup.
Sherwood spent four years as a player at White Hart Lane between 1993 and 2003 before returning five years later as part of Harry Redknapp's coaching staff. He was retained by Levy alongside Ferdinand despite Redknapp's sacking in 2012 and has worked closely with Villas-Boas at Tottenham's Spurs Lodge training complex in recent months.
Sherwood has been linked with a number of moves away from Spurs over the past 18 months, with the club having rejected an approach from his former club Blackburn in October 2012.

Kelechi Iheanacho In Contracts Talks With Mancity

Under-17 star Kelechi Iheanacho has been given leave from the Super Eagles B camp to travel to England for contract talks with Premier League team Manchester City.

Iheanacho has been training with the Nigeria squad preparing for next month's African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa.
Coach Stephen Keshi released the lad after speaking to his father James Iheanacho on the telephone on Monday afternoon.
“Initially a young man came declaring that he was the agent of Iheanacho, but I declined to deal with him until I hear from the family because the boy is still a minor,” Keshi was quoted as saying.
“It was soon after my rejection that I got a call from his father who told me that they have gotten travel visa to the United Kingdom and that I should oblige him with his son’s release. I did and told the young man to go and do the nation proud at whichever club he finally chooses to settle down with.”
The coach acknowledged that Iheanacho is a talented player who should be handled gently and professionally as he navigates his professional career.
